STL vs pre-supported STL
What hobbyists should know before scaling, supporting and printing detailed miniature people.
What an unsupported STL contains
An unsupported STL contains the model's mesh geometry. You can rotate it, scale it and decide where to place supports in your preferred slicer. The advantage is flexibility; the trade-off is setup time and the need to understand support placement.
What pre-supported files contain
A pre-supported model typically includes support geometry designed for a particular size and printing process. It may arrive as an STL with support structures or another slicer-compatible format. It is not a guarantee of a successful print on every printer and resin combination.
Why scale matters
Supports sized for one figure height may be inappropriate when enlarged or reduced dramatically. For tiny models, oversized tips can scar details; undersized tips can fail to hold them. Review supports after any significant scaling change.
How we'll approach file packages
Our intended deliverables are standard STL files, with supported versions under consideration. Final file formats and tested sizes will be disclosed on the Kickstarter rewards page, not assumed from promotional renders.
